Hexagon has agreed to acquire Guidance Marine, expanding its maritime positioning portfolio with sensor technologies used to help vessels safely operate near offshore platforms, wind turbines, quaysides and other ships.
Guidance Marine was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Leicester, U.K.
The company serves customers in more than 40 countries and develops radar, laser, vision and microwave-based sensing systems for offshore energy, marine construction, port and harbor operations and naval applications.
Guidance Marine’s technology is integrated with major Dynamic Positioning systems, which automatically control a vessel’s position and heading without requiring it to anchor.
The acquisition is designed to complement Hexagon’s existing navigation and marine positioning capabilities.
Hexagon’s GNSS technology, positioning correction services, anti-jamming capabilities and assured positioning systems determine a vessel’s absolute geographic location.
Guidance Marine’s sensors provide a different layer of information by measuring the vessel’s position relative to the physical structures and assets surrounding it.
Combining those capabilities will allow Hexagon to address a broader portion of a vessel’s positioning requirements through a more integrated product portfolio.
The deal also gives Hexagon deeper relationships with Dynamic Positioning system suppliers, original equipment manufacturers and vessel operators.
Guidance Marine’s installed base across more than 40 countries is expected to accelerate Hexagon’s expansion into applications including offshore wind, marine construction and port automation.
Those markets increasingly require precise station-keeping as offshore infrastructure becomes more complex and vessels incorporate higher levels of automation and autonomy.
Guidance Marine generated approximately €22 million in revenue during the financial year ended December 31, 2025.
The company also reported an operating margin above Hexagon’s corporate average.
The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2026.
After completion, Guidance Marine will become part of Hexagon’s NovAtel Positioning Division within the company’s Autonomous Solutions Business Area.
The structure places Guidance Marine alongside Hexagon’s broader portfolio of positioning and autonomous technologies while preserving the relative positioning expertise that has made the company a supplier to maritime operators globally.
