Honda Motor Co Ltd (NYSE:HMC) has remodeled 50 minivans in order to transport COVID-19 patients to hospitals and quarantine locations in Japan, according to Reuters. The remodeled minivans seals the rear section of the vehicles to keep drivers from getting infected.
There is now an airtight divide between the driver and rear passenger areas of the vans. Plus the air conditioning system has been improved to ensure fresh air enters through the front (near the base of windshield wipers) and pass through to the rear passenger area through vents and exit through the back. The one-way ventilation system installed in its Odyssey and Step WGN minivan models does not enter the space of the driver so it reduces the risk of infection.
Honda has lended these vehicles to health authorities in Tokyo. As of yesterday, two of the vehicles have been delivered. Later, Honda plans to supply the vehicles to Saitama prefecture.
And Honda might consider making more of these customized vehicles available depending on demand.
