Hone Health is a telehealth clinic and longevity platform that focuses on helping both men and women take a proactive, holistic approach to their health as they age. They are known for providing personalized care, primarily through hormone optimization and other treatments, all from the comfort of a person’s home. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Hone Health co-founder and CEO Saad Alam to gain a deeper understanding of the company.
Saad Alam’s Background
Could you tell me more about your background? Alam said:
“I am the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hone Health, the largest online clinic treating men’s hormonal imbalances and low testosterone. We recently expanded into longevity, disease prevention, and energy management.”
“As a lifelong health advocate, I am dedicated to researching new and innovative ways to improve overall well-being. I believe we can maximize the human lifespan past 100 years, and am committed to helping people understand how to cultivate a holistic approach to actually feel younger as they age.”
“Before founding Hone Health, I was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Citelighter, a venture-backed education technology company that exited to Sylvan Learning. Citelighter helped students become better writers using principles of neuroscience. Prior to my entrepreneurial journey, I led Marketing and Sales functions at HealthCentral, which was the second-largest health publisher at the time. Before that, I led Market Research at Eli Lilly & Company for the $4B neuroscience franchise, where I was responsible for market research and insights development for leading pharmaceutical brands, including Zyprexa, Symbyax, and Relprevv.”
“I was honored to be recognized as an EY Entrepreneur of the Year NY finalist and hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Rochester, where I served as student body president.”
Formation Of The Company
How did the idea for the company come together? Alam shared:
“Hone was founded from a very personal place. I was a life-long health advocate, I started experiencing health symptoms such as low energy, loss of libido, loss of mental acuity/stamina at the age of 35 and my physicians couldn’t help me understand what was going on. It took me a year of bumping through the current care system to find a physician to take care of me and made me realize how broken the current model is. This was coupled with having to watch my father pass earlier in life due to chronic conditions that were completely avoidable. The combination led me to create Hone.”
“In 2020, Hone Health was founded to meet the increasing demand for accessible, personalized hormone optimization solutions. Hone offers a comprehensive approach and integrates telemedicine, at-home, and in-person lab testing for 40+ biomarkers and tailored treatment plans, all overseen by expert medical professionals starting at $129/month.”
“Hone’s technology is evolving to provide a multi-faceted care model that provides personalized protocols that combine medications, supplements, diet, exercise, stress reduction, and sleep guidance with community support to improve patients’ healthspan or their quality of existence.”
“The goal of care is to first alleviate any pre-existing symptoms immediately and then begin building lifestyle behaviors that slowly begin to reverse the onset of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia, otherwise known as the four horsemen as popularized by expert physician Peter Attia.
“Hone Health is now poised to expand its scope, offering a broader range of proactive and preventative healthcare services. Leveraging its expertise in telemedicine and personalized treatment plans, this investment will allow the company to address a wider array of health needs.”
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Alam reflected:
“There are so many. I remember when we first started advertising we would sit around Slack and every time there was a new sale we would all celebrate. After a week it was happening every few minutes that we had to realize it was just normal and we were onto something. Every day I get a message from a patient or two telling me how we’ve changed/enabled their life in some positive manner. This is pretty priceless since they are constant reminders of the impact we’re having on people’s lives.”
