Humana Foundation: $5 Million Commitment To Reduce Veteran Suicide Through Face The Fight

The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana Inc., announced it is expanding its commitment to Face the Fight, a national cross-sector initiative aimed at dramatically reducing veteran suicide. The foundation will invest $5 million to scale evidence-informed solutions, enhance data collection, and expand support for community-based organizations serving veterans at high risk of suicide.

The new funding builds on the foundation’s initial three-year, $6 million philanthropic commitment to the initiative. Since its launch in 2023, Face the Fight, founded by USAA, the Humana Foundation and Reach Resilience, has reached more than one million veterans, service members and family members through suicide prevention, connection, early-intervention strategies and training.

The announcement coincides with the second annual Face the Fight Coalition Meeting, held March 3–4 in Louisville, Kentucky, where more than 250 partners from philanthropy, business, nonprofit and government sectors are convening to share learnings and advance strategic priorities for 2026 and beyond. A peer-sponsored training session provided by Onward Ops will also be held in conjunction with the meeting to equip Humana employees with skills to assist veterans transitioning from military to civilian life, a period associated with elevated suicide risk.

Since 2001, more than 125,000 veterans have died by suicide, with the veteran suicide rate 60% higher than the national average. Face the Fight recently introduced its 2026–2028 strategic plan, a three-year roadmap designed to accelerate progress and updated its aspirational goal of saving 15,000 veteran lives by 2032. Over the next three years, the initiative will align grantmaking, training, storytelling, and partnerships to drive measurable impact.

Humana also highlighted its broader commitment to veterans through Humana Military, which partners with the Defense Health Agency to administer the TRICARE health program for 4.6 million U.S. military active-duty members, retirees, and family members in the East Region. Local companies, including GE Appliances, Churchill Downs, and Brown-Forman, are supporting the coalition meeting as part of broader efforts to bolster Kentucky’s support for veteran suicide prevention.
