Huwise: Interview With Co-Founder Franck Carassus About Democratizing Enterprise Data

Huwise provides a data product marketplace designed to give human business users, AI models, and agents centralized and secure access to an organization’s data products and assets. Formerly known as Opendatasoft, the company focuses on democratizing data by helping organizations break down data silos and transform information into a source of knowledge, innovation, and performance. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Huwise Co-Founder Franck Carassus to learn more.

Franck Carassus’ Background

When asked about his background, Carassus shared:

I’ve spent my career focused on helping organizations transform their performance through technology, especially by harnessing their data. I passionately believe that democratizing access to data has the potential to dramatically improve how businesses operate and how society functions.

When we founded Opendatasoft, now Huwise, 15 years ago, my colleagues and I saw the potential of data sharing. The rise of AI and the enormous growth of information is now accelerating this trend.

Primary Responsibilities

When asked about his primary responsibilities, Carassus explained:

I co-founded Huwise and have a particular focus on supporting our growing client base and leading our key technological partnerships. I help organizations in both the private and public sector build data ecosystems that empower business users and fuel AI success.

Huwise’s Mission

When asked about the company’s underlying mission, Carassus said:

At Huwise, we believe that data has the power to elevate our thinking and decision-making. Our mission is to democratize data, helping our clients to turn their data into a source of knowledge, innovation, and performance for all.

We work with clients to break down data silos and transform their data into a true driver of progress for everyone.

Transformation From Opendatasoft To Huwise

When asked about his favorite memory working for the company so far, Carassus recalled:

There have been a lot to choose from, from getting our first inbound lead in North America, to being recognized by Gartner for our technology.

From all of these I’d pick our recent transformation from Opendatasoft to Huwise. This isn’t just a simple rebranding. The new name (Human + wise) better reflects our vision: elevating human thinking through data.

It’s been particularly pleasing to see the really positive response to our shift from our existing customers, prospects, and the wider ecosystem. It demonstrates that we are at the forefront of the trend to scale data consumption and transform it into real value.

Core Products And Features

When asked about Huwise’s core products and features, Carassus detailed:

Our data product marketplace solution provides a one-stop shop for data products and data assets for everyone, from human business users to AI models and agents.

It delivers centralized, secure access to all an organization’s data products and assets, through an intuitive, self-service, AI-powered experience that is modelled on that of e-commerce marketplaces.

The result is that everyone (human and AI) can discover, understand and consume trusted, reliable data, without requiring technical skills.

Our solution is designed to integrate seamlessly into IT and data architectures, connecting to business systems and then sharing data through data products, visualizations and APIs.

It creates a collaboration space for the whole organization that scales data use and unlocks value.

Technology Evolution

When asked how the company’s technology has evolved since launching, Carassus explained:

When we created Opendatasoft our focus was on helping public sector organizations to make their data available through open data portals. This was often due to regulatory needs to increase transparency and accountability.

Over the last 15 years our market has changed and grown as a wider range of organizations see the benefits of data sharing, both internally and externally.

We’ve evolved our technology to match these changing requirements, particularly around sharing data with non-technical business users, supporting emerging trends such as the growth of data products and incorporating AI to both improve usability and simplify the administration of our solution.

Major Company Milestones

When asked about some of the company’s most significant milestones, Carassus said:

I’ve mentioned our rebranding in late 2025, but before that I’d highlight our growing recognition from Gartner as a key player in the data management market.

It has now included us in multiple reports, starting by listing us as a Sample Vendor for Data Marketplaces and Exchanges (DME) in its Hype Cycle™ for Data Management 2025. This provided strong confirmation that our aims and technology meet a growing market need.

Another, more recent, milestone is our signing of a major US enterprise client. While we can’t name them (yet!) the close match between our technology and their objectives really reaffirmed our strategy and everything we are working on.

Customer Success Stories

When asked to share specific customer success stories, Carassus explained:

Over the last 15 years we’ve worked with clients to launch over 3,000 data marketplaces in 25 countries across the globe. We’re increasingly seeing our technology being adopted by enterprises as they scale data consumption and value. Good examples of this include:

We are working with a major global technology company to transform how they share data internally. Using our platform, they are creating data communities across the organization, providing a centralized, reliable and intuitive data marketplace that delivers access to information and drives greater collaboration through data.

Leading electricity distribution company UK Power Networks is committed to sharing its data across its ecosystem in order to help drive the connection of renewable energy resources and to assist stakeholders, such as local authorities as they plan for net zero.

Its Huwise-based platform provides tailored, interactive dashboards to connect stakeholders, many of whom are not energy specialists, with the information they need.

Global technology and energy automation company Schneider Electric’s key goal is to help its customers meet their challenges around energy efficiency and sustainable development.

As part of this, it has used our technology to create the Exchange platform, a subscription-based data services marketplace which brings together resources, including APIs, analytics, datasets and data sharing tools and expertise.

This enables partners to share ideas and concepts through a powerful collaborative cloud platform and access a network of solution providers in the energy sector.

Competitive Differentiation

When asked what differentiates Huwise from its competition, Carassus emphasized:

Many companies provide tools to help organizations store, analyze or inventory their data. However, these tools don’t enable easy access to reuse data, and the vast majority are technical solutions that can only be used by skilled data specialists.

This limits their usability and prevents organizations from scaling data sharing with humans and AI.

In contrast, our data product marketplace is designed to democratize data by making it available to all, in ways that they can easily understand and benefit from.

Our intuitive, self-service interface is based on the same principles as an e-commerce marketplace, making it simple for anyone to discover, understand, and consume data, especially data products, without technical skills.

This enables organizations to maximize value from their data and improve productivity, decision-making, and innovation.

Future Goals

When discussing Huwise’s future goals, Carassus concluded:

We bring a new vision to the data management market. Today, data management is IT-centric, and we complement this approach with a business-centric vision that changes the way people in the organization have access to knowledge and can work and collaborate around data sharing.

This is a shift that brings a purely digital and e-commerce experience to the enterprise data management stack, realizing our long-term goal of empowering people with insights and transforming how they work day-to-day.
