Matt Stern’s Background

Could you tell me more about your background? Stern said:
I served in the military for decades before joining the private sector. I began my career in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger. After serving in various Infantry roles, I was selected to become a System Automation Management Officer (Computer Geek) for the Army. During Operation Iraqi Freedom II, I was responsible for building the largest operational information network in military history.
My 22 years of service culminated with the command of 2d Battalion, 1st Information Operations Command and the Army Computer Emergency Response Team (ACERT). This was one of the first units in U.S. Army history dedicated to cyberspace operations. After retirement from the military, I became the Program Director for the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) and National Cyber Protection System (EINSTEIN).

Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates the company from its competition? Stern affirmed:
Hypori differs fundamentally from traditional mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) vendors by eliminating the need to trust, control, or store data on the endpoint at all. MDM focuses on managing and securing the device itself, often requiring invasive controls that impact user privacy, while MAM attempts to secure specific applications or containers but still leaves data exposed on potentially compromised devices and networks.
In contrast, Hypori uses Virtual Mobile Infrastructure (VMI), where the entire mobile workspace runs in a secure cloud environment and only pixels are streamed to the user. This means no data at rest on the device and no sensitive data in transit. This architecture collapses the attack surface from the endpoint to the enterprise edge, removes reliance on device security, preserves employee privacy, and provides a stronger, simpler, and more scalable security model than MDM or MAM, especially for highly regulated and high-risk environments.

Last May, we announced the launch of our completely redesigned Hypori client. Hypori’s updated client is built on a framework that allows the company to deploy faster while delivering a reimagined user interface designed for the mission-critical workforce. The new client was developed with a “user-first” philosophy, focusing on streamlining the onboarding process and improving daily productivity without compromising the company’s core promise of 100% data separation and total personal privacy. By moving its new framework, we can now deliver updates, security fixes, and new features to its customers much faster than ever before.

How much funding has Hypori raised so far? Stern revealed:
We’ve raised $55 million total, including a $20 million Series A round and a $35 million Series B round. Our Series B extension featured backing from UBS AG, Carahsoft Technology Group Corp., and AE Industrial Partners.

Over the past few years, Hypori has expanded beyond our roots in defense and government (where its virtual mobile infrastructure was originally built to support the most sensitive, high-risk missions) into the broader enterprise market. As mobile work became mainstream and cyber threats increasingly targeted personal devices, we recognized that the same zero-trust, data-never-on-the-device architecture prized by defense and government agencies was just as relevant to the commercial sector, especially highly regulated industries. The company has since extended its platform to industries such as finance, addressing challenges like employee privacy, data sovereignty, and secure remote access at scale.
