Scottish advanced materials company iGii has secured a £22.7 million financing and support package to accelerate commercialization and industrial adoption of Gii, its proprietary three-dimensional porous pure carbon nanomaterial.
The package includes an £11.7 million Series B equity investment led by the Scottish National Investment Bank, with participation from PXN Ventures and Archangels, along with £11 million of support from Scottish Enterprise.
iGii has spent approximately a decade developing the scientific, manufacturing and engineering capabilities needed to move Gii from a research breakthrough toward large-scale industrial adoption.
The material is grown at room temperature rather than mined or compounded. Its three-dimensional porous carbon architecture can be engineered for different applications, including sensing, diagnostics, energy storage and industrial technologies.
iGii now uses compact, automated production processes intended to deliver consistent material at industrial scale. The company said it already has manufacturing capacity in place to support large-scale production.
The new funding will support deeper engagements with global manufacturers, additional technology development and the conversion of existing customer relationships into longer-term commercial supply agreements.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, iGii plans to move opportunities across its technology platforms from customer evaluation into product integration and scale. Its customer pipeline includes Tier 1 manufacturers.
Scottish Enterprise’s support will also help iGii expand its workforce from 55 employees to nearly 70 by the end of 2026. The existing team includes 17 PhDs.
