IKEA has introduced a new range of 21 smart home products designed to be compatible with Matter, the universal smart home standard. The launch represents a significant expansion of IKEA’s presence in the smart home market, focusing on lighting, sensors, and control devices that work seamlessly across different brands and platforms. The new range rebuilds IKEA’s smart home offering from the ground up to create a more intuitive and accessible experience.
The company developed the new products through extensive testing in real homes to gain a deeper understanding of how people use connected devices. With the inclusion of Matter support, IKEA aims to simplify connectivity across ecosystems, enabling customers to build a smart home without being limited to a single manufacturer. The new lineup includes both entirely new products and updated versions of existing items that now operate with Matter.
The range emphasizes key categories that form the building blocks of a flexible and expandable smart home. The lighting offering introduces a new KAJPLATS smart bulb series with eleven variations that differ in size, shape, lumen output, and styling. The bulbs offer options for color-changing and white spectrum illumination, as well as dimmable functionality. The sensor lineup includes devices that monitor motion, air quality, humidity, temperature, and water leakage, designed to support comfort and prevent damage in different areas of the home. The control segment includes remote controls with various input methods for adjusting lighting and setting scenes, as well as the GRILLPLATS smart plug, which connects standard lamps or small appliances to the smart home environment and tracks energy usage.
To operate Matter-compatible products, a hub is required. Customers may use IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub or a hub from another brand. DIRIGERA serves as both a Matter controller and a Matter Bridge, allowing it to manage products from other manufacturers while ensuring older IKEA smart products remain compatible with platforms built on the Matter standard.
This release represents the first phase of a broader evolution of the IKEA Home smart product line. The company plans to expand further into new categories while focusing on simplicity, ease of use, and affordability.
The new range will be introduced gradually, with pricing and availability varying by market. Customers are encouraged to contact their local IKEA locations for release information.
KEY QUOTES:
“Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people — or affordable enough for many to consider. This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started.”
David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden
“This launch is about making the smart home experience better and broader. We’re upgrading our most-appreciated products while also adding new ones to solve even more everyday challenges. Our focus has been on keeping things simple from setup to daily use, so it’s easy for people to start, use and grow a smart home.”
Stjepan Begic, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden
“Our goal is still the same as when we started exploring the smart home in 2012: to make it easy to use, easy to understand, and within reach for the many. We start with understanding life at home, where we continuously watch, listen and learn what makes a difference in everyday life. We believe technology should serve a purpose, not exist for its own sake. With more than 900 million store visits each year, I think we’re in a good place to help more people discover the benefits of a smarter home.”
