Impossible Foods — which is a company that is known for developing plant-based meat products — is now working on a milk product. A milk product offered by Impossible Foods would not be like other soy or other plant-based milk, according to Impossible Foods CEO Patrick Brown via CNN.

Impossible Foods are aiming to have the milk taste like the real thing. And Impossible Foods is planning to double R&D over the next year in order to develop more plant-based products such as milk.

In order to develop more products, the company raised $700 million this year. And the company is also ramping up hiring. The company demonstrated a plant-based milk prototype to reporters during a virtual conference call recently.

“We want the milk that a dairy milk consumer will choose,” said Brown (via CNN).

During the demo, Impossible senior flavor scientist Laura Kliman poured the milk prototype into a hot coffee cup to show how easy it is mixed in. And Kliman also showed how the milk prototype can be heated up and foam too.

Brown pointed out that prototypes were made from a number of different plant sources. And soy was used in the prototype, which is considered a “good choice” for nutritional and supply chain purposes.
