Impossible Objects Raises $40 Million Series B To Scale Industrial 3D Printing Technology

Impossible Objects has raised $40 million in Series B funding led by Inflection Equity to scale its Composite-Based Additive Manufacturing technology and expand industrial production across aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing.

The financing also included participation from Aaron Wealth Management, OCA Ventures, Impact Capital and Excell Partners.

Impossible Objects developed Composite-Based Additive Manufacturing, or CBAM, as an alternative to traditional 3D printing processes that have historically been constrained by production speed, material capabilities and cost.

The company’s technology uses high-speed manufacturing processes and advanced composite materials, including carbon fiber, to produce strong and lightweight parts at volumes intended for commercial manufacturing.

CBAM is designed to address applications traditionally served by processes such as CNC machining and injection molding, while eliminating the need for expensive tooling.

Its latest production system, the CBAM 25, can print as many as 25 layers per minute and is approximately 15 times faster than competing production additive manufacturing technologies, according to the company.

The system can produce composite parts with strength of up to 200 MPa, which Impossible Objects said is as much as four times the strength delivered by competing additive manufacturing processes, while maintaining minimal shrinkage and warpage.

Since launching the CBAM 25 in early 2025, Impossible Objects has received five orders and begun deploying systems across aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing customers.

Deployments and customers include the U.S. Air Force, National Institute for Aviation Research, Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Rochester Institute of Technology and U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal.

At Rock Island Arsenal, CBAM technology can support production of as many as 10,000 drone bodies per month.

Impossible Objects has also secured $20 million in U.S. government contracts and awards.

Its Small Business Innovation Research Phase I and Phase II awards support development involving high-strength long-range drones, additive composites with strength comparable to traditionally manufactured composites, integrated wiring within printed parts, and lightweight aircraft wing and fuselage structures.

The company’s technology has also been sold to or deployed with the U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal and Air Force Research Laboratory and is included in the U.S. Air Force Technology Roadmap.

Impossible Objects plans to use the Series B proceeds to increase production of its industrial additive manufacturing systems, expand customer deployments and build its service and commercial organization as its installed base grows.

Founded in 2017, Impossible Objects operates in Northbrook, Illinois, and Rochester, New York.
