Impulse Space has raised a $308 million extension to its Series D financing, bringing the total round to $808 million as the company expands its spacecraft technology for moving payloads after launch. Existing investors participating in the extension include 137 Ventures, BANNER VC, DFJ Growth, Linse Capital, Lux Capital and Valor Equity Partners, among others.
Impulse plans to use the additional capital for product development and team expansion as it serves a growing mix of commercial, civil and government space customers.
The company’s central thesis is that launching a payload into space represents only one part of the transportation problem. Satellites and other spacecraft increasingly need propulsion systems capable of moving them rapidly and precisely between destinations after reaching orbit.
Impulse develops in-space mobility systems intended to address that requirement as demand increases for more flexible spacecraft positioning and orbital transportation.
The funding follows a period of substantial organizational expansion. Impulse said it has more than doubled its headcount during the past year while expanding its physical footprint across the U.S.
The company also pointed to recent government awards as evidence of increasing demand for its capabilities.
The Series D extension gives Impulse additional resources to continue scaling its spacecraft portfolio as the commercial space economy expands beyond launch services and toward more sophisticated transportation, positioning and mission operations in orbit.
