A new Indian search engine, Guruji.com, has received a $7 million funding commitment from Sequoia Capital.
The search engine claims to use complex algorithms to find Indian content online. Guruji is founded by Anurag Dod and Gaurav Mishra. Both of them are Delhi Indian Institute of Technology graduates.
At this point, the search site looks rather simple. Its homepage has the basic Google copy-cat layout.
As for their search technology, considering they just launched, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Their search index will obviously grow as their technology matures. If they plan to be the Google of India, they have a lot of work cut out for them.
