InspeCity has raised ₹100 crore ($10.5 million) in a funding round led by Speciale Invest and Ashish Kacholia, with participation from Antler Elevate, Antler India, Manish Gandhi, Shastra VC, and other investors.
The funding represents a major milestone for the space infrastructure company as it works to move ambitious technologies from the laboratory into orbit.
InspeCity is focused on developing infrastructure that could support the growing number and value of assets deployed in space. As more satellites and other systems move into orbit, the company believes the space economy will increasingly require capabilities similar to those available for critical infrastructure on Earth.
These capabilities could include moving, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, refueling, and eventually assembling assets in space.
The need becomes particularly important as satellites become more sophisticated and costly. On Earth, equipment that develops a problem can generally be inspected and repaired directly. A malfunctioning asset in orbit creates a much more complicated challenge because servicing infrastructure is limited.
InspeCity’s larger ambition is to help establish an in-space servicing architecture that enables satellites to be serviced, sustained, upgraded, and potentially reused instead of simply reaching the end of their initial operating lives.
Such infrastructure could eventually support longer satellite lifespans and a more sustainable approach to operating assets in orbit. Rather than treating spacecraft as essentially disposable once they experience failures, run out of fuel, or reach the end of their original mission, servicing capabilities could create opportunities to maintain or extend their usefulness.
The ₹100 crore financing will help InspeCity pursue this vision and take additional technologies toward deployment in space.
