InSphero announced the acquisition of PhenoVista Biosciences, Inc., in a move designed to expand its capabilities in advanced 3D cell-based assays, high-content imaging, and predictive in vitro modeling for drug discovery and toxicology research.
The acquisition combines PhenoVista’s expertise in high-content imaging, phenotypic analysis, and assay development with InSphero’s scalable 3D biology platforms, predictive in vitro models, and AkuraFlow microphysiological systems. The companies said the combined organization aims to accelerate the adoption of more predictive, human-relevant drug discovery and toxicology workflows across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
PhenoVista has built a reputation for providing image-based assay development, cellular analysis, and screening solutions to pharmaceutical and biotech customers. Through the acquisition, the company will gain access to InSphero’s global commercial infrastructure, complementary biological platforms, and expanded operational resources.
The companies said the combination is expected to create opportunities across oncology, fibrosis, neuroscience, and safety assessment research. Customers are expected to benefit from integrated workflows that combine 3D biology, high-content imaging, and AI-enabled analytics to generate more predictive datasets earlier in the drug discovery process.
InSphero also noted that recent momentum behind New Approach Methodologies in the United States, including support from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health, is helping accelerate the adoption of human-relevant in vitro technologies.
The companies said the expanded organization will enable faster turnaround times, closer customer collaboration, and broader access to advanced NAMs technologies in the growing in vitro market.
