Instawork is a company that serves shift options for people who are looking for work in the hospitality industry such as chefs, housekeepers, dishwashers, etc. The Instawork app is available on Android and iOS in English and Spanish. And there are thousands of professionals and partners that use Instawork every day across the Bay Area, LA, and San Diego. And the company has been expanding into Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Chicago.
Recently, Instawork announced it raised $18 million in a new round of funding from new investors Spark Capital, GV, and Burst Capital. Existing investors Benchmark, Y Combinator, Tuesday Capital, and SV Angel also participated in the round. And Spark Capital general partner Nabeel Hyatt joined the Instawork board in conjunction with the funding round. Instawork is going to use the funding to accelerate expansion across the US.
“The response to Instawork so far in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego has been very strong by both Professionals and our Partners,” said Instawork CEO and co-founder Sumir Meghani. “In fact, it has been so strong that we are using our new round of funding to quickly expand Instawork to more markets.”
The reasons why professionals use Instawork is due to the flexibility around where and when they want to work along with the higher pay. Plus there are a substantial number of shifts available. More than 50% of professionals on Instawork are referred by friends and family. And professionals make an average of $140 per shift.
“The current way hospitality staffing works is broken in ways that create chaos and uncertainty for the businesses and their workers,” added Hyatt. “From the moment we met Sumir and the team it was clear they had gone deeply native on the problem to design a solution that could unlock a tremendous amount of growth for the industry.”
And Instawork partners receive immediate feedback on their gigs with 97% matched with qualified professionals within 24 hours. Plus the service is easy to use and professionals and partners can set up a free account in minutes.
“Sumir and the Instawork team have taken a disciplined approach in building a marketplace that works for both their hospitality Partners and Professionals,” explained GV general partner Jessica Verrilli. “We’re excited to partner with the team as they launch new markets and expand Instawork across the country.”
