InterDigital, a research and development company specializing in mobile, video, and AI technologies, has acquired London-based Deep Render, an artificial intelligence startup pioneering video and image compression technologies. The acquisition enhances InterDigital’s leadership in video compression and expands its AI talent pool, reinforcing the company’s long-term strategy to lead in next-generation video and wireless innovation.
Founded in 2018, Deep Render has developed AI-based video codecs designed to transform how video is processed and distributed across connected devices and digital platforms. Through the transaction, Deep Render’s team of AI engineers will join InterDigital’s Video Lab, and its patent portfolio in AI-powered video coding will become part of InterDigital’s extensive video technology portfolio.
InterDigital stated that the addition of Deep Render will enhance its research capabilities in AI-native video compression, improving the efficiency and quality of video delivery and supporting the growing global demand for streaming and other video-based services. The company’s technology innovations have been widely licensed to manufacturers and service providers across wireless, entertainment, IoT, and automotive industries.
