Intuitive Machines announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Goonhilly Earth Station and COMSAT in a deal designed to significantly expand its integrated space-to-Earth communications network for lunar and deep space missions.
The acquisition is expected to increase Intuitive Machines’ communications infrastructure capacity by adding 44 antennas and expanding network availability for deep space communications, data relay, and position, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities. The transaction will include Goonhilly’s Lunar and Deep Space Communications, Commercial Satcom, and Defense and Security divisions.
According to the company, the acquisition will strengthen spacecraft communication and control capabilities in lunar and cislunar environments while broadening Intuitive Machines’ reach into adjacent commercial, civil, and government markets. Goonhilly’s strategic United Kingdom location is expected to improve visibility across major Earth-viewing arcs and increase contact opportunities for lunar and deep space missions.
Intuitive Machines said the acquisition will enhance its integrated space-to-ground network, which combines a lunar data relay constellation with a global ground segment designed to maintain persistent communications with the Moon. Goonhilly’s infrastructure includes deep space assets such as the GHY6 32-meter antenna, the cryogenically cooled GHY3 30-meter antenna, and support for X-band, S-band, and Ka-/Ku-band communications.
The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, including approvals under the UK National Security and Investment Act 2021 and from the US Federal Communications Commission.
KEY QUOTES:
“Customers have been clear that they want a single, integrated, and resilient solution for their communications and PNT needs as they accelerate missions at an unprecedented pace.
