Intuitive Machines has received authorization to proceed on a multi-satellite communications infrastructure program with an anticipated value of more than $600 million, representing a major new spacecraft award for the space infrastructure company. The customer was not disclosed, and additional program details are being kept confidential at the customer’s request.
Under the agreement, Intuitive Machines will use its satellite communications capabilities and IM 1300 satellite platform to design, manufacture, integrate and support multiple spacecraft for a critical communications infrastructure mission.
The award expands Intuitive Machines’ work beyond its lunar activities as the company builds a broader business spanning commercial, civil and national security space markets.
Management is increasingly positioning Intuitive Machines around an integrated “build, connect and operate” infrastructure strategy.
The company builds spacecraft and mission-critical systems, connects those assets through communications and navigation networks and ultimately seeks to operate them as long-duration infrastructure services.
Rather than treating those capabilities as separate businesses, Intuitive Machines sees spacecraft manufacturing, network connectivity and ongoing operations as successive layers of one space infrastructure platform.
The new multi-satellite program gives the company another opportunity to apply that strategy across a larger communications infrastructure deployment.
Intuitive Machines said its broader organization has built more than 300 spacecraft, delivered more than 260 kilograms of payload to the lunar surface and provided precision navigation expertise for spacecraft operating across the solar system.
