The Investment Company Institute has announced that President and CEO Eric J. Pan plans to step down after six years leading the organization. ICI’s Board of Governors has asked Pan to remain in his role while it conducts a search for a successor, with the transition expected to be completed no later than June 30, 2027.
During Pan’s tenure, ICI expanded its advocacy in Washington and internationally and pursued a multiyear modernization agenda launched in 2021. The organization said his leadership helped strengthen its policy engagement, member services, and global presence while addressing regulatory and operational issues affecting regulated funds and their investors.
ICI highlighted several policy initiatives from Pan’s tenure, including its Reimagining the 1940 Act initiative in 2025 and work connected with Securities and Exchange Commission actions on examinations and other priorities. Pan also spearheaded the Help U.S. Retire campaign, which ICI said generated more than 25 million media impressions and 11,000 letters to Congress in support of protecting retirement savings incentives.
Other initiatives included Operation Investment: Paths to Opportunity, which focused on industry talent and career pathways, along with advocacy around disincentive investing, investment accounts for Americans, and broader access to asset classes through regulated funds.
ICI said its experienced leadership team will continue overseeing policy advocacy, member engagement, and strategic priorities throughout the search process. The organization represents regulated investment funds and the millions of Americans who use those products for retirement, savings, and other financial goals.
The transition plan gives the board time to conduct a leadership search while maintaining continuity across ICI’s advocacy and member programs. Pan will remain in place during that process, allowing the organization to continue its current policy agenda while preparing for its next chief executive.

Andrew Schlossberg, Chair Of ICI’s Board Of Governors And President And CEO Of Invesco
“It has been a privilege to lead ICI and work alongside an extraordinary team on behalf of an industry that plays such an important role in Americans’ financial futures. When I joined ICI, I saw an opportunity to build on its strong foundation and position the organization to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry and economy. I am proud of what we have accomplished together—from modernizing our advocacy and expanding our global engagement to delivering meaningful policy wins for funds and investors.
Being the head of ICI has been a remarkable role for which I am grateful for the opportunity, but I never wanted to make this role the last position of my career. Six years is a long time for a CEO. I am proud of what I have been able to achieve at ICI and believe I am leaving ICI a stronger and more effective advocate for our industry and the investors they serve. I want to now build upon my wonderful experience at ICI and pursue new opportunities while I still can. I remain deeply committed to ICI’s mission and look forward to advancing our priorities and supporting a smooth transition in the months ahead.”
