- The IRS has officially launched the “Get My Payment” website and application
The IRS has officially launched the “Get My Payment” website and application at www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment. This app allows taxpayers who filed their tax return in 2018 or 2019 to submit their direct deposit information if they did not provide their banking information on their return.
Upon filling out the information, they will receive their Economic Impact Payments rather than having to wait for a check to be sent in the mail.
The “Get My Payment” app also allows taxpayers to track the status of the payment. Adults who are eligible should receive $1,200 each ($2,400 for married couples). And families will receive $500 for each child in a household.
To get started, taxpayers will have to enter their social security number, date of birth, and mailing address (do not put the city and state). And taxpayers will have to enter their Adjusted Gross Income from their most recent tax return submitted, either 2019 or 2018, the refund or amount owed from their latest filed tax return. And then they will have to submit their bank account type, account number, and routing number.
What happens for those of you who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019? You can use the “Non-Filers” payment page on the IRS website.
Those who filed 2018 or 2019 tax returns with direct deposit information or receive Social Security do not need to take action. Payments will be automatically received in their bank accounts.
Due to high demand today, the IRS pointed out that you may have to wait longer than usual to access the site. Some users have been seeing an error message that says: “According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.”
