- In case you are seeing an error on the IRS website with the “Get My Payment” app, then try writing your address in all-caps.
A number of people have been seeing an error while checking the IRS coronavirus stimulus website. One of the solutions to fixing the problem is entering your information in all-caps. There are millions of Americans who are getting a $1,200 stimulus payment from the US government to help get by during the coronavirus pandemic.
To check on the status of your payment, there is a Get My Payment app on the IRS website.
But a lot of people have been seeing an error message that says “payment status not available” after entering their personal information.
The form asks for your Social Security number, address, birth date, and zip code. After you input this information, then you should see the status of the stimulus check. And you can also enter your bank account information to receive a direct deposit. For those of you who are seeing an error message, then you might be able to fix that issue by typing in your address in all-caps:
This case-sensitive solution for making the website work seems to be a bit strange. And clearly the IRS had to rush the development of the app to make it work for millions of people in a short amount of time.
Kudos to Jessica Roy of the Los Angeles Times for discovering the solution:
Sorry to be all "I heard this one weird trick from a friend and it really works" BUT, after weeks of not being able to see our status on the IRS website, we tried typing our address in ALL CAPS and it worked and we were able to finally enter our bank account info.
