IVP: 5 IPOs, 2 M&A Deals, And Over $3 Billion In Follow-On Financings In 2019

Later stage venture capital investor IVP has announced the conclusion of a blockbuster year for the firm. IVP saw 6 new investments, 5 IPOs, and 2 merger & acquisition transactions. Plus IVP reached a milestone of 113 portfolio company IPOs through CrowdStrike, Datadog, Oportun, Slack, and Uber going public. And in addition, portfolio exit highlights include the acquisitions of Looker and Mindbody. During the year, IVP’s portfolio companies raised over $3 billion in follow-on financings.

IVP — which has $7 billion in committed capital — is currently investing from IVP XVI. IVP XVI is a $1.5 billion later-stage venture capital and growth equity fund. IVP has invested in companies like AppDynamics, Coinbase, Compass, CrowdStrike, Datadog, Dropbox, GitHub, Glossier, Grammarly, HashiCorp, LegalZoom, Mindbody, MuleSoft, Personal Capital, Rubrik, Slack, Snap, Supercell, Twitter, UiPath, and ZipRecruiter. And IVP remains committed to its strategy of supporting innovation at the growth stage and partnering closely with exceptional management teams.

In terms of the IPO exits, IVP made its initial investment in Oportun in February 2013. The initial Datadog investment was in March 2018. IVP first invested in Slack back in April 2015. In June 2018, IVP made its initial Crowdstrike investment. And in February 2015, IVP made its initial investment in Uber.

The merger and acquisitions included Looker and MINDBODY. Looker was acquired by Google for $2.6 billion in June and IVP made its initial investment in the company back in June 2017. And MINDBODY was taken private for $1.9 billion in February of this year (IVP made its initial investment in October 2012).

IVP’s new investments announced this year include Attentive, Eightfold.ai, Harness, Nextdoor, Niantic, and Yellowbrick. And this year, the venture firm did follow-on rounds in Brex, Casper, Checkr, Expanse, Glossier, Grammarly, KeepTruckin, Klarna, Lime, Rubrik, Sauce Labs, SoFi, Sumo Logic, Tala, and UiPath.

This year, Jules Maltz and Dennis Phelps were named on the Forbes Midas List of 100 Best Venture Capitalists. Thomas Loverro was named on the “Brink List” of investors who have not been added to the Midas ranks, but has been making an impact in the venture capital industry. Todd Chaffee, Somesh Dash, and Eric Liaw were named on the The New York Times and CB Insights List of the Top 100 Venture Capitalists. And Business Insider recognized Louisa Xu in the list of Venture Capital’s 25 Rising Stars in Silicon Valley.

Currently, IVP has 20 investors focused on identifying later-stage growth companies in the consumer and enterprise sectors. And IVP is one of the top-performing firms by typically serving as a lead investor in later-stage rounds with equity investments ranging from $10 to $100 million.

IVP also announced several promotions and new hires this year. Loverro was promoted to General Partner. Cack Wilhelm joined IVP as a partner and will focus on investing in growth stage technology companies. And the firm also added James Black, Becca Faust, and Karthik Ramakrishnan to its investment team.

Next year, IVP will celebrate its 40th anniversary and the firm will continue its efforts to drive existing portfolio companies to achieve success at scale while pursuing additional investments in rapidly-growing technology companies.
