Janney Montgomery Scott has recruited Todd Phelan, a financial advisor overseeing more than $125 million in client assets, to its Willett Phelan Myers Rodts Wealth Management Group. His arrival expands the group into a 10-person team overseeing more than $1.5 billion in assets.
Phelan joins from Cambridge Investment Research Advisors, bringing nearly 30 years of financial services experience. He will initially work from Janney’s Atlanta office before helping establish the firm’s first location in Alabama.
Janney plans to open a permanent office in Auburn, Alabama, in early 2027, expanding its Southeastern presence and providing a new location for the wealth management group.
The office will allow Phelan to continue serving his established client relationships while collaborating with the larger advisory team.
Phelan is joining the group alongside Monica Venable, a Private Client Associate with more than 20 years of client service experience.
Venable’s responsibilities include supporting client relationships, operational activities, and service delivery.
Her experience will complement Phelan’s advisory practice as they transition to Janney and expand their involvement with the Willett Phelan Myers Rodts group.
The move also establishes a professional partnership between Phelan and his brother, Scott Phelan, who is already a member of the group.
The expanded team will combine their respective client relationships and advisory experience while accessing Janney’s investment resources and wealth management platform.
For Janney, the recruitment strengthens an established advisory group and creates an opportunity to expand its physical presence into Alabama.
The planned Auburn location will become the firm’s first office in the state, giving it a new regional base for serving clients.
Phelan’s appointment adds an advisor with experience working with individuals and families on their long-term financial requirements.
His background includes nearly three decades in financial services, most recently through his affiliation with Cambridge Investment Research Advisors.
He earned a degree in finance from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia after graduating from Auburn High School.
Phelan also maintains longstanding relationships within the Auburn community.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the Auburn Rotary Club and previously served on the Auburn Chamber of Commerce.
Venable holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Movement Studies from Auburn University and has spent more than two decades working in client service roles.
The addition of Phelan’s practice brings the Willett Phelan Myers Rodts group to more than $1.5 billion in combined client assets.
The figure represents assets overseen by the expanded advisory team rather than a transaction value or a commitment to transfer any specified amount of assets on a particular date.
Janney’s planned Auburn office will support the team’s continued development while giving the firm an additional location in the Southeastern United States.
