Facebook Hires Jason Toff For Its New Product Experimentation Team

  • Product management leader Jason Toff has announced he will be taking a job as PM Director at Facebook’s NPE Team.

Product leader Jason Toff has worked in a number of executive roles at Google between 2008 and 2014 and again between 2016 and now. And he was also a General Manager at Vine and a director of product manager at Twitter. Now Toff is going to become a PM Director at Facebook where he will be starting up a new initiative under the recently formed NPE team.

NPE Team, LLC is a new developer name that Facebook will use for launching new apps focused on giving people entirely new experiences for building community. And it will always be presented to people as “NPE Team, from Facebook.”

“We decided to use this separate brand name to help set the appropriate expectations with users that NPE Team apps will change very rapidly and will be shut down if we learn that they’re not useful to people,” said Facebook in a blog post. “At Facebook, we’re committed to giving people control over their personal data and to protecting privacy across our family of apps, including future apps from NPE Team. This means that we work hard to keep people’s information secure and will leverage our internal tools, systems, and expertise inside the company for future NPE products. The services offered by NPE Team will be governed by Facebook’s Terms of Service, Data Policy, and NPE Team Supplemental Terms that will post in the coming weeks in advance of apps shipping.”

While at Google, Toff had worked on VR projects and he also worked at Google’s Area 120 incubator. The NPE initiative at Facebook sounds like it operates similar to Google’s Area 120.

On Twitter, Toff also pointed out that he cannot talk about project specifics and said that NPE is hiring a “2-pizza dream team full of creative can-doers,” including UX designers, engineers, or both.
