Chase Doelling’s Background

Chase Doelling

Could you tell me more about your background? Doelling said:

“I’ve spent the last decade working at the intersection of identity, security, and DevOps, primarily across venture-backed startups, with a brief stop at a Fortune 500 company. Today, I serve as Director of Product Marketing at JumpCloud, where I originally started as the first leader of our strategic alliance group. I’m passionate about designing authentication strategies and helping organizations think more strategically about identity. At home I’m fortunate to serve as a mentor at the University of Colorado Boulder.”

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Doelling shared:

“While I wasn’t a founder, I joined early when the company was around 100 people and have supported scaling the company to over 1,000 people. My role focuses on helping organizations, particularly in the mid-market, navigate modern identity and access management challenges. I work cross-functionally across product, marketing, and partnerships to ensure JumpCloud addresses key pain points like compliance, visibility, and security baselines.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Doelling reflected:

“We’ve changed a lot in the six years I’ve been here, and the type of global talent that we’ve been able to attract is truly remarkable. We are fully remote, but my favorite memories are still when we have folks come into our Colorado office near the mountains. Watching people’s reaction to seeing snow for the first time are memories I will never forget.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Doelling explained:

“JumpCloud’s platform for IT is built to unify identity, access, and device management. We offer key features like multi-factor authentication (MFA), single sign-on (SSO), mobile device management (MDM), conditional access, and now SaaS management and privileged access management (via recent acquisitions). All of this is built with Zero Trust security in mind and designed to give IT teams visibility and control from a single platform.”

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Doelling acknowledged:

“One of the biggest challenges in the IAM space today is the fragmented tool landscape, especially for mid-sized companies. They often rely on cobbled-together solutions that leave gaps in visibility and control. Compliance adds another layer of complexity. Organizations are asking: Who has access? Who granted it? Is it still needed?”

“JumpCloud addresses this by providing a unified platform that consolidates access, device, and identity information making it easier to enforce policies and accelerate compliance. We also help organizations adopt Zero Trust principles quickly, even without large security teams.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Doelling noted:

“We began as the first Directory-as-a-Service to challenge Active Directory and have since evolved into a fully-fledged IT Platform. We’ve built out key capabilities like SSO, passwordless, device management and . More recently, we’ve expanded into PAM with our acquisition of VaultOne, giving IT teams a single source of truth and control over the modern hybrid work environment.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Doelling cited:

“Some key milestones include raising over $400 million in funding, reaching a $2.6 billion valuation, and growing our customer base to more than 5,000 paying customers. Product-wise, highlights include launching SaaS management, acquiring VaultOne and Resmo, and rolling out conditional access and passwordless access.”

Customer Success Stories

When asking Doelling about customer success stories, he highlighted:

“We are fortunate to have customers across almost every vertical you can think of from crypto and AI, to the post office of Malaysia. Everyone needs a secure identity on a secure device. One of my favorite customer stories is Primitive Skateboards. We not only enable the fast growing L.A. based brand, but the IT leader also leverages JumpCloud as the backbone of his MSP company. It perfectly showcases the flexibility we can give customers.”

Total Addressable Market

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Doelling assessed:

“We’re focused on the global IAM and IT management space with an addressable market that’s well into the tens of billions. As more organizations shift to hybrid work and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), the need for unified identity and device management continues to grow.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Doelling affirmed:

“JumpCloud stands out because we deliver enterprise-grade security and IAM features in a platform built specifically for mid-market organizations. We provide a unified control plane for users, devices, and access – something traditionally only available through costly and complex enterprise solutions. Our cross-platform support, open directory architecture, ease of use, and integrated capabilities mean customers don’t have to compromise between functionality and simplicity. We’re also heavily focused on time-to-value, helping IT teams implement, adapt, and secure their environments quickly.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Doelling emphasized:

“We’re focused on continuing to build out AI and automation capabilities, expanding global reach, and helping organizations meet the growing compliance demands across markets. We’re also doubling down on integrations, making it easier for our platform to plug into existing IT ecosystems and expanding device trust features to help secure the edge.”

Additional Thoughts

Any other topics you would like to discuss? Doelling concluded:

“AI and automation are becoming central to identity security. From phishing and vishing attacks to rogue AI tool usage, the threat landscape is shifting quickly. We’re investing heavily in visibility, especially around AI application usage and improving automation to help IT teams stay ahead. I’m also excited about how regulatory pressure (like GDPR, NIS2, CCPA) is pushing companies to take identity security more seriously. It’s raising the bar in a good way.”
