Katie Drummond has been hired as the senior vice president of Vice Digital. Drummond has been working as an editor in digital media for about a decade prior to joining Vice. Drummond is replacing Ciel Hunter — who left Vice after working at the company for more than twelve years. Drummond will be working out of Vice’s headquarters in Brooklyn and will be reporting to Vice News EVP Josh Tyrangiel.
At Vice, Drummond will be responsible with aligning video production with the editorial divisions. And Drummond is also going to oversee talent development and the creation of a consistent voice and approach among Vice’s operations around the globe, according to Variety. Plus Drummond is going to collaborate with Vice’s sales and product teams to build up Vice Digital’s advertising and growth initiatives.
“Katie’s one of the most talented editors and managers in our field.” said Tyrangiel in a statement. “She’s serious about making great digital things and brings out the best in the people she works with.”
Prior to joining Vice, Drummond was a deputy editor to the VP of Editorial at Medium. At Medium, Drummond built up editorial operations and commissioned top-tier freelance writers, reporters, and columnists.

Drummond also worked at The Outline for about a year where she ran the editorial operation for the Independent Media owned publication. In the first year, The Outline was nominated for a National Magazine Award and saw significant audience growth.
A few years ago, Drummond worked as an executive managing editor and the editor in chief at the Gizmodo Media Group. During that time, she oversaw editorial operations for all six Gizmodo Media Group web properties including Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Kotaku, Deadspin, Jezebel, and Lifehacker.

And before that, Drummond worked as a deputy editor at Bloomberg.com (founding member of the editorial leadership team for Bloomberg Business), an assistant managing editor at The Verge (launched Verge Science and was editorial lead of Beyond Recognition — which won best short film from the American Film Institute in 2014), a reporter at WIRED (covering military research), and was a founding staff member of News Corp’s The Daily.
