King & Spalding has added Nadja Al Kanawati and Matteo Angelini to its International Disputes practice from WilmerHale. The appointments expand the firm’s capabilities across civil law and common law disputes while strengthening its international arbitration and high-value cross-border litigation offerings.
Both lawyers previously worked with King & Spalding strategic advisor, advocate and arbitrator Franz Schwarz for several years at WilmerHale.
Al Kanawati represents corporations, state entities and consortia in complex international disputes.
Her experience spans sectors including energy, mining and industrial supply chains, where disputes can involve multiple parties, jurisdictions and governing legal frameworks.
She is qualified in Switzerland and New York, providing experience across European and U.S. legal systems.
Al Kanawati also holds an LL.M. from Columbia Law School.
Angelini focuses on international arbitration and high-value commercial litigation.
As an English barrister, he advises clients on complex cross-border disputes and contractual issues governed by English law.
His arbitration experience includes proceedings conducted under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, London Maritime Arbitrators Association and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Angelini’s sector experience includes commodities, energy, technology and construction.
He also handles disputes arising from mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, including matters involving contractual interpretation, shareholder disagreements and the performance or termination of commercial agreements.
Angelini holds a master’s degree in law and finance from the University of Oxford.
The appointments bring complementary legal backgrounds to King & Spalding’s International Disputes practice.
Al Kanawati’s civil law and U.S. qualifications complement Angelini’s English law and common law experience, strengthening the firm’s ability to advise clients on disputes spanning multiple jurisdictions and legal traditions.
Their arrival also expands King & Spalding’s capacity to represent corporations, governments, state-owned entities and international business partnerships in arbitration and commercial litigation.
