Kingdom Holding Company announced that it has acquired a stake in Breakthrough Energy Ventures for SAR 255 million, equivalent to $68 million, through a transaction with its chairman, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.

The deal was executed through a share purchase agreement signed on April 1, 2026, with Kingdom Holding Company purchasing the stake from Prince Alwaleed, who is also the company’s largest shareholder. The investment was funded through the company’s internal resources.

Breakthrough Energy Ventures, founded by Bill Gates, focuses on backing innovative technologies aimed at accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. The firm invests across sectors, including agriculture, electricity, transportation, manufacturing, and buildings.

Based on BEV’s most recent audited financial statements, the acquired stake was valued at approximately $98 million. The agreed purchase price of $68 million reflects a roughly 30 percent discount to that valuation. Historical valuations for the stake stood at $91.4 million in 2023 and $96.6 million in 2022.

The transaction aligns with Kingdom Holding Company’s strategy of providing its shareholders access to differentiated and often exclusive investment opportunities, particularly in emerging and transformative sectors. The company emphasized its role as an early investor in high-impact technologies.

As an investment holding company with a diversified global portfolio, Kingdom Holding Company indicated that the acquisition falls within its ordinary course of business and is not expected to materially alter its operational structure. The deal also constitutes a related-party transaction due to Prince Alwaleed’s dual role as seller and chairman.
