Kingdom Holding Completes Acquisition Of 70% Stake In Al-Hilal

Kingdom Holding Company has completed its acquisition of a 70% stake in Al-Hilal Club Company from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, making Kingdom Holding the controlling shareholder of one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent professional football clubs.

The completion follows the share purchase and sale agreement signed between Kingdom Holding and PIF on April 16, 2026.

Following the transaction, Kingdom Holding owns 70% of Al-Hilal Club Company, while PIF retains the remaining 30% stake.

The ownership change marks a new phase for Al-Hilal as the club moves from majority PIF ownership to majority private-sector ownership while maintaining PIF as a significant minority shareholder.

Al-Hilal’s board acknowledged PIF’s role in developing the club during its ownership period, including efforts to strengthen its institutional structure, operating framework and commercial capabilities.

Those initiatives were intended to provide the club with a stronger organizational foundation and support its development as a more commercially sustainable sports institution.

With Kingdom Holding now serving as principal shareholder, Al-Hilal expects to build on that foundation and pursue additional opportunities for growth.

The club said Kingdom Holding’s investment is expected to strengthen its competitive and investment capabilities, support commercial expansion and increase Al-Hilal’s presence in both domestic and international markets.

The ownership structure could also provide Al-Hilal with additional opportunities to develop commercial partnerships, expand revenue-generating activities and strengthen the broader business operations surrounding the club.

The transaction comes as Saudi Arabia continues efforts to attract greater private-sector investment into professional sports and create more commercially sustainable sports organizations.

The acquisition forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Investment and Privatization Project for Sports Clubs, an initiative designed to increase private investment and participation across the country’s sports sector.

The program supports objectives under Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to increase the economic contribution of sports, create new investment opportunities and develop clubs with stronger and more sustainable business models.

Privatization is also intended to help clubs diversify revenue sources, strengthen governance and attract additional investment while supporting the broader development of professional sports in Saudi Arabia.

For Al-Hilal, the completion of Kingdom Holding’s investment establishes a new long-term ownership structure with a private-sector majority shareholder and continued participation from PIF.

The club expects the combination of Kingdom Holding’s controlling interest and PIF’s remaining 30% ownership to support continued institutional, commercial and competitive development as Al-Hilal expands its ambitions in Saudi Arabia and internationally.
