Kivo Health Raises $10 Million Series A Led By Allumia Ventures

Kivo Health has raised an oversubscribed $10 million Series A round led by Allumia Ventures to expand its AI-powered virtual care platform for seniors living with chronic disease. Corewell Health Ventures, Y Combinator, Heuristic Capital, and MassMutual Ventures also participated in the financing. The round brings Kivo’s total funding to more than $16 million.

Seattle-based Kivo is initially focused on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, combining clinical care with an AI-powered platform designed to provide proactive treatment and monitoring in patients’ homes.

The company’s flagship offering is a fully virtual pulmonary rehabilitation and care program.

Kivo said traditional pulmonary rehabilitation remains significantly underused despite clinical evidence supporting its ability to improve quality of life, exercise capacity, and breathlessness while reducing hospital readmissions following COPD exacerbations.

A large U.S. Medicare study cited by the company found that only 2.7% of patients hospitalized for COPD received pulmonary rehabilitation within 12 months after discharge.

A peer-reviewed study of Kivo’s own virtual program found a 24% improvement in symptoms, a 34% improvement in functional capacity, a 25% improvement in mood, and median program attendance of 83%.

Kivo also cited an independent actuarial analysis estimating that its approach could reduce total healthcare spending by $8,245 per patient annually through fewer hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and nursing home days.

The new financing will be used to expand Kivo’s health plan partnerships and clinical operations nationally while advancing the company’s AI platform.

Over time, Kivo plans to apply its model to additional high-cost chronic diseases affecting seniors.

The company’s programs are covered by health plans including UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Blue Cross, Aetna, Priority Health, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Existing investors include SNR Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, Samsung NEXT, and Magic Fund.

KEY QUOTES:

“Up to thirty million Americans have COPD, and the system only shows up for them when they are already in the hospital. By thoughtfully combining high quality clinical care with AI, we can now scale proactive, accessible care to every senior, improving symptoms and reducing avoidable costs.”

Victor Sadauskas, MD, Founder And CEO Of Kivo Health

“Less than 3% of eligible patients receive pulmonary rehab despite evidence of 56% fewer hospitalizations and meaningful improvements in quality of life. Access remains the central barrier as in-person clinic capacity is severely limited, and those who stand to benefit most are often the least able to attend.”
