KKR: Former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky Joins As AI Strategy Advisor

By Amit Chowdhry • Sep 8, 2025

KKR recently announced the appointment of Adam Selipsky as Senior Technology and AI Strategy Advisor. Selipsky, widely recognized for his leadership in cloud and enterprise technology, brings decades of experience to the role, having previously served as CEO of Amazon Web Services and Tableau. His appointment signals KKR’s intent to deepen its focus on the convergence of digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

Selipsky’s career has been defined by his ability to scale mission-critical internet platforms. At AWS, he helped transform the company from a fledgling cloud service into the backbone of the modern digital economy, supporting thousands of businesses globally. His tenure at Tableau saw the company through its $15.7 billion acquisition by Salesforce and a transition to cloud-native analytics. These experiences position him well to advise KKR as it expands its footprint in AI, data centers, fiber networks, and energy systems.

In his new role, Selipsky will work closely with KKR’s Real Assets division, which manages $179 billion in investments. He will help shape strategy, guide capital allocation, and support governance across a portfolio that spans five data center platforms in the U.S., APAC, and EMEA, totaling more than 155 facilities and a 15-gigawatt development pipeline.

The firm’s infrastructure also includes twelve fiber platforms reaching nearly 30 million homes and over 130,000 wireless sites across Europe and Asia.

KKR has already committed approximately $42 billion in equity to digital infrastructure and another $20 billion to power and renewables. Recent initiatives include the recapitalization of Metronet, a major fiber-to-the-home operator in the U.S.; an investment in Gulf Data Hub, a leading data center platform in the Middle East; and the launch of a multi-billion-dollar co-located power and data center development in Bosque County, Texas, in partnership with CyrusOne and Calpine.

KEY QUOTES:

“AI is fundamentally rewiring the internet’s infrastructure—exposing new bottlenecks while creating once-in-a-generation opportunities. We believe this is a transformational moment for the sector. With AI driving unprecedented demand for compute and power, KKR is advancing a coordinated strategy that unites its data center, energy, and digital infrastructure investments into one platform purpose-built for hyperscalers and AI developers. Adam’s appointment marks a pivotal step in that journey, and we’re thrilled to welcome him as we retool the world’s infrastructure for the AI era.”

Waldemar Szlezak, Partner and Global Head of Digital Infrastructure at KKR

“KKR has taken a visionary approach—integrating power, data centers, and connectivity to meet the demands of hyperscalers and AI developers alike. I’m excited to collaborate with Waldemar and the team to build on that foundation and position KKR as the world’s leading AI infrastructure investor.”
