Knife River has acquired the assets of Donaldson Brothers Ready Mix Inc., an aggregates-based ready-mix supplier operating in western Montana. Donaldson Brothers Ready Mix is a leading supplier in the Bitterroot Valley, located south of Missoula. The business includes three aggregates sources with more than 30 years of supply, a ready-mix plant, and precast concrete manufacturing capabilities.
This marks Knife River’s third acquisition in its Mountain Segment in 2026. The company previously acquired Morgan Asphalt Inc. in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the assets of Sparrow Enterprises Inc. in Helena, Montana earlier this year.
The latest acquisition strengthens Knife River’s access to strategic aggregate reserves in western Montana and establishes a presence in a new regional market. The company indicated that Montana’s growth outlook aligns with its strategy of expanding in mid-size, higher-growth markets through vertically integrated, aggregates-focused businesses.
Knife River, a member of the S&P MidCap 400 index, produces construction materials including crushed stone, sand, gravel, ready-mix concrete, and asphalt, and also provides contracting services for both public and private sector projects.
