Knit Health Secures $11.6 Million Seed Funding To Launch Its Large Clinical Behavior Model

Knit Health has emerged from stealth with $11.6 million in seed funding to build a new category of clinical intelligence AI that learns directly from real‑world clinician behavior. The round was co‑led by Uncork Capital and Frist Cressey Ventures, with the pre‑seed round led by Moxxie Ventures and participation from Coalition Operators. The company, spun out of the University of California, Berkeley, plans to accelerate development and deployment of its Large Clinical Behavior Model across health systems nationwide.

The company argues that much of today’s healthcare AI relies on large language models trained primarily on text, guidelines, and published literature. This approach, while useful, misses the collective clinical intelligence embedded in how clinicians actually navigate complex systems — from referral patterns and scheduling decisions to the informal coordination that shapes patient care. Knit Health aims to capture this real‑world decision‑making to help health systems deliver faster, more consistent, and more personalized care.

Knit Health’s model is trained on Truveta EMR data representing more than 130 million patients across 30 U.S. health systems. Using deep reinforcement learning, causal inference, and behavioral cloning, the model learns from observed clinician actions and applies those insights across operational workflows such as triage, patient flow, and care team allocation. The company positions its technology as an infrastructure layer that sits beneath every clinical workflow, powering routing decisions, discharge predictions, referrals, and more.

The company is launching with full HIPAA compliance, including governance, bias testing, and continuous monitoring to ensure trustworthy guidance for patients and providers. Knit Health is partnering with health systems to deploy its initial models and aims to become the foundational intelligence layer that supports every clinical decision. The founders, a team of Berkeley researchers and academics, bring expertise across behavioral economics, causal inference, generative AI, and healthcare.

KEY QUOTES:

“Much of what matters most in medicine isn’t written in textbooks, it’s learned through experience with time and navigating the healthcare system. Across millions of patient journeys, clinicians develop patterns for what to do next and when. Knit learns from those real‑world decisions, transforming collective clinical experience into intelligence that improves how the system works.”

Jonathan Kolstad, Co‑Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Knit Health

“Knit Health is creating a new approach to AI. Unlike traditional models, it learns and evolves from real human behavior and can be applied across complex systems. This approach redefines how intelligence is captured and scaled, opening entirely new possibilities for AI‑driven innovation in healthcare.”

Tripp Jones, General Partner at Uncork Capital

“The hardest challenge in healthcare isn’t knowing what good care looks like, it’s delivering it consistently for every patient. Knit Health’s model embeds the best clinical intelligence directly into the workflow, helping clinicians make better decisions faster and more consistently.”
