Kopin Corporation secured an additional $18.6 million sole-source award from the Office of the Secretary of War through U.S. Army Contracting Command under the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment program.
The new award brings Kopin’s cumulative IBAS funding to $34 million.
The funding represents the second major U.S. government investment supporting Kopin’s color MicroLED microdisplay technology.
Kopin plans to use the latest award to develop two additional MicroLED display configurations for ground-soldier and pilot applications.
The funding will also support expanding U.S.-based MicroLED manufacturing capabilities.
Kopin said the investment is intended to accelerate the onshoring of MicroLED manufacturing processes for advanced defense and commercial applications.
The company is developing the additional displays for next-generation soldier visual systems and pilot heads-up displays.
These applications require high brightness, rugged durability, power efficiency, and reliable performance across demanding operating environments.
Kopin said the technology could also support future weapon sights, helmet-mounted systems, and augmented reality platforms.
The award also advances Kopin’s broader strategy of supplying display and optical technologies across defense, medical, enterprise, and AI infrastructure markets.
