L3Harris Technologies has received a $33.1 million contract modification from the U.S. Space Force for the Unified Messaging System effort, increasing the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $1.527 billion.
The $33,141,075 modification raises the contract’s total face value from approximately $1.494 billion. Work will be performed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, with completion expected by October 2028.
The Space Force is obligating approximately $2.4 million in fiscal 2026 research, development, test, and evaluation funding at the time of the award. Space Systems Command at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado is the contracting activity under contract FA8823-20-C-0004.
The Unified Messaging System work fits within L3Harris’s broader position as a major defense technology contractor supporting military operations across the space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains. The company develops technologies spanning secure communications, command and control, intelligence and surveillance, missile warning and tracking, electronic warfare, satellite systems, and advanced missile technologies.
L3Harris reorganized its operations in 2026 around three mission-focused business segments: Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions. Space & Mission Systems incorporates satellite and payload technologies, missile warning and defense capabilities, mission networks, and other defense and civil government programs, while Communications & Spectrum Dominance includes resilient communications and electronic warfare technologies.
The company also has extensive experience developing secure command-and-control and communications infrastructure for U.S. military customers. Its technologies include satellite command and control, secure satellite communications, tactical communications networks, real-time information distribution, and ground infrastructure used to connect sensors, operators, and other military assets.
In the space domain, L3Harris provides end-to-end technologies that include satellites, payloads, ground systems, mission planning, integration, data processing, and missile warning and tracking. Its portfolio includes work for the U.S. Space Force, Space Development Agency, and Missile Defense Agency, including systems intended to detect and track ballistic and hypersonic threats.
L3Harris generated $21.9 billion in revenue in 2025 and ended that year with $38.7 billion in backlog, reflecting the scale of its defense and government technology portfolio. Space & Mission Systems was its largest business based on 2025 revenue.
