Lafayette Instrument has acquired Avisoft Bioacoustics, expanding its scientific instrumentation portfolio with hardware and software used in ultrasonic vocalization research. The terms were not disclosed.
Lafayette is a portfolio company of Branford Castle Partners, and Avisoft represents its sixth add-on acquisition since Branford Castle’s Fund II acquired the company in 2021. The transaction advances Lafayette’s strategy of developing a broader life sciences instrumentation platform through complementary products and specialized technical capabilities.
Avisoft provides integrated ultrasonic microphones, recording systems and analytical software used by universities and research institutions. Its technology supports the study of high-frequency animal vocalizations that may be difficult or impossible for humans to hear without specialized equipment.
Ultrasonic vocalization research is used in fields including neuroscience, behavioral science, pharmacology and animal welfare. Researchers may analyze vocal patterns to evaluate communication, stress, social behavior, neurological conditions or responses to experimental treatments.
Avisoft’s systems have been referenced in thousands of peer-reviewed publications, providing Lafayette with an established presence in a specialized research category. The acquired technology complements Lafayette’s existing scientific instruments and data acquisition equipment used across biology, neuroscience, medical research, rehabilitation and human evaluation.
