Lassie, a company developing autonomous AI systems designed to handle administrative work for small businesses, announced it has raised $35 million in Series A financing, bringing its total funding to $47 million. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Night Capital, Superhuman founder and former CEO Rahul Vohra, Plaid co-founder and CEO Zach Perret, Wise co-founder and former CEO Taavet Hinrikus, Gokul Rajaram, and Reforge co-founder and CEO Brian Balfour.
Founded by former product leaders from Robinhood, Coinbase, and Superhuman, Lassie is focused on helping small business owners reduce administrative burdens through autonomous AI systems. The company currently operates in more than 700 businesses across 49 states and says its platform delivers more than 250,000 hours of labor annually.
Lassie’s initial focus is healthcare practices, particularly doctors’ offices, where administrative work related to insurance reimbursements and payment reconciliation can consume significant staff time. The company’s AI agent accesses insurance portals, retrieves reimbursement information, reconciles records, updates systems of record, and verifies funds deposited into bank accounts.
The company said a typical medical practice can lose more than 100 hours per month to administrative work and spend approximately $200,000 annually on staffing for those functions. Lassie aims to automate much of that workload, allowing owners and practitioners to focus on patient care and business growth.
As part of the funding announcement, Lassie revealed that Alex Rampell, co-founder of Affirm and general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, will join the company’s board of directors. The company also announced that Dr. Ed Zuckerberg and former Robinhood CFO Jason Warnick will join as advisors.
Lassie was founded by Steijn Pelle, an early product manager at Robinhood and Coinbase, and Frédéric Renken, Superhuman’s first product hire. Existing backers include Andreessen Horowitz, SV Angel, Homebrew, Go Global Ventures, and Night Capital.
KEY QUOTES:
“Small business owners should be freed up from doing busywork, so they can focus on what they are passionate about. After watching 700 businesses rely on Lassie to do a big part of their administration, I am convinced that the future is bright. They now use the time we save them to grow the business and spend more time with customers. And we are just getting started!”
Steijn Pelle, CEO and Co-Founder, Lassie
“I am thrilled to partner with Steijn, Frédéric, and the team as they build towards one of the most important shifts in software: from tools that help businesses operate to agents that do the work. We think businesses will soon run themselves and Lassie is the perfect example that this is not a pipe dream. They are already making this a reality, providing many businesses with tens of hours of labor each month, and allowing business owners to focus on what they love doing, not busywork.”
Alex Rampell, Co-Founder, Affirm, and General Partner, Andreessen Horowitz
“Before Lassie, I was drowning in paperwork where insurance companies would send me payments and I’d have to spend hours after seeing patients to manually enter hundreds of patients and thousands of procedure codes. Now, Lassie saves us over 100 hours a month and payments that used to take four to five weeks hit our account in less than a week. Most importantly, Lassie has given me time back to focus on my patients, grow my practice, and spend time with my family.”
