Latham & Watkins announced that Walter “Casey” Berger has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner in its Securities and M&A Litigation Practice. Berger is an experienced trial lawyer who focuses on securities litigation, merger-related disputes, and a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters.
Berger represents corporations, private equity sponsors, officers and directors, and financial institutions in high-stakes disputes, including securities class actions, shareholder derivative lawsuits, merger and corporate governance disputes, antitrust and consumer fraud class actions, and energy-related litigation. He also has extensive experience handling trials, appeals, and arbitrations in both U.S. and international forums.
Latham said Berger’s addition strengthens its ability to serve clients across the energy, financial services, and private capital sectors in Texas. His arrival further expands the firm’s litigation platform and marks the fourth Litigation & Trial partner to join Latham in Texas this year, following the additions of Taj Clayton, Scott Thomas, and Carson Young.
Berger joins the firm from Winston & Strawn. He earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Pomona College. Latham noted that Berger’s experience and longstanding collaboration with the firm position him well to support clients facing complex, high-profile disputes.
