Latham & Watkins Adds Jennifer Ying Lan As Partner In New York Capital Markets Practice

Latham & Watkins has added Jennifer Ying Lan as a partner in its New York office. She joins the firm’s Capital Markets and Public Company Representation Practices with a focus on investment-grade debt offerings and other public and private financing transactions.

Lan advises U.S. and international issuers and underwriters on debt capital markets matters. Her practice adds depth to a strategically important part of Latham’s broader capital markets platform.

Investment-grade debt offerings allow highly rated companies and other issuers to raise capital through bonds and similar securities. These transactions can support acquisitions, refinancing, capital expenditures and general corporate purposes.

Lan also has experience with initial public offerings, other equity offerings and high-yield debt transactions. Her work extends to liability management transactions, acquisition financings, corporate governance and securities law matters.

Liability management transactions can help companies address existing debt through exchanges, repurchases, amendments or other restructuring strategies. This experience complements Latham’s capabilities across debt, equity, hybrid capital, private credit and restructuring.

Lan’s clients operate across industries including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, financial services, consulting, insurance and technology. She has also advised companies and financial institutions in the industrial and consumer retail sectors.

Her arrival follows the recent additions of capital markets partners Byron Rooney, Dan Gibbons and Bill Nelson. Latham said the group of hires reinforces its ability to advise clients on increasingly complex financing structures and changing market conditions.

The firm’s Capital Markets Practice represents issuers, private equity investors and investment banks across major financial centers. It advises clients on securities offerings and other capital-raising transactions across different portions of the capital structure.

The practice forms part of Latham’s Capital Strategies group. That platform brings together the firm’s banking and finance, capital markets, hybrid capital, liability management, private credit and restructuring capabilities.

Lan joins Latham from Davis Polk & Wardwell. She earned a law degree and an MBA from Duke University’s School of Law and Fuqua School of Business and received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

Latham expects Lan’s technical experience and client relationships to support the continued expansion of its New York capital markets team. Her addition also strengthens the firm’s ability to advise on both traditional securities offerings and customized financing solutions.
