Latham & Watkins has added Lisa Kattan as a partner in its Intellectual Property Litigation Practice and Co-Chair of the International Trade Commission Practice in Washington, D.C., strengthening the firm’s capabilities across Section 337 investigations and patent disputes.
Kattan brings more than 25 years of ITC and patent litigation experience spanning private practice and federal government service.
She advises technology and life sciences companies in Section 337 investigations before the ITC and in related patent disputes.
Her practice also encompasses proceedings in federal district courts, appellate courts, U.S. Customs and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Kattan has handled matters across industries including semiconductors, telecommunications, video streaming, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Earlier in her career, she spent five years at the International Trade Commission.
During that period, she served as Senior Investigative Attorney in the ITC’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations and acted as lead trial counsel for the U.S. government in high-profile patent infringement investigations.
Her combination of private-practice and government experience gives Kattan familiarity with the legal, technical and procedural issues involved in Section 337 matters.
At Latham, she will work alongside the firm’s broader intellectual property litigation team on disputes that can involve simultaneous proceedings before the ITC and other courts and agencies.
Kattan’s arrival follows a broader expansion of Latham’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice.
The firm has added five trial lawyers to the practice during the past year, including Ahmed ElDessouki, Kieran Kieckhefer, David Shaw and Adam Greenfield.
Latham said its ITC team has won three trials during the past two years.
Kattan joins the firm from Baker Botts.
She received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, an M.S. from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. from the University of South Dakota.
