Latham & Watkins: Leading Patent Trial Lawyer David Shaw Joins Washington, D.C. Office

Latham & Watkins LLP announced that David Shaw has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner in its Intellectual Property Litigation Practice, strengthening its capabilities in high-stakes patent disputes across technology and life sciences sectors.

Shaw is a first-chair trial lawyer with extensive experience handling complex patent litigation in federal district courts and Section 337 proceedings before the International Trade Commission. He has led disputes from inception through appeal, managing trial strategy, case development, and courtroom execution. His practice spans litigation in U.S. District Courts and the Court of Federal Claims, appeals before the Federal Circuit, and inter partes reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

He joins Latham from Desmarais LLP and brings a strong technical and academic background, holding a JD from The George Washington University Law School, an MS in Tumor Biology from Georgetown University, and a BA in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University. Shaw has also served as an Adjunct Professor at The George Washington University Law School since 2021.
