Latham & Watkins has added finance lawyer Max Silverstein as a partner in its New York office, continuing the firm’s recent buildout of senior talent in its capital markets and liability management ranks. The firm said Silverstein joined its Capital Markets Practice and will advise sponsors, corporates, and credit funds on complex financings and liability management transactions.
Silverstein’s practice centers on direct lending and special situations work, including workouts, restructurings, and insolvency-related matters. Latham said he represents private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, corporate borrowers, and credit funds on leveraged finance matters, including acquisition financings, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and asset-based and other senior-secured credit facilities. The firm also highlighted Silverstein’s experience advising on complex asset-based term loans and revolvers, including first-in, last-out financings.
Latham framed the hire as aligned with rising client demand across direct lending, special situations, and restructuring. Marc Jaffe, managing partner of the firm’s New York office, said Silverstein’s arrival strengthens Latham’s ability to serve sophisticated financing needs in areas that are a strategic priority for the firm. John Sobolewski, global chair of Latham’s Liability Management Practice and global vice chair of the Capital Markets Practice, said Silverstein will deepen the firm’s capabilities and reinforce its position advising clients across the capital structure.
Silverstein said he was drawn by Latham’s scale and resources, along with its commitment to investing in and expanding the practice, and described the platform as positioned for “exponential growth.”
Latham said Silverstein joins from Ropes & Gray. His academic background includes a JD from Columbia Law School, an MA from Relay Graduate School of Education, and a BS from Pennsylvania State University. The firm also noted a series of partner additions in New York over the past year, including Ray C. Schrock, Andrew Parlen, John Sobolewski, Ryan Preston Dahl, Candace Arthur, Alexander Welch, Benjamin Rhode, and Natasha Hwangpo.
