Legato AI: Interview With Co-Founder & CEO Dana Rochman About The Custom Software Applications Platform

Legato AI enables non-technical business users to build and customize software applications and workflows directly inside existing SaaS platforms using plain-language instructions. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Legato AI co-founder and CEO Dana Rochman to learn more.

Background Of The Team

Could you tell me more about your background? Rochman said:

We are former product and technology leaders in B2B SaaS platforms. We have experienced firsthand the pain of generic products that force business users into long and costly customization projects or push them to build workarounds outside the platform.

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Rochman shared:

When we started our journey, it was clear to us that we wanted to change the status quo for SaaS platforms. We interviewed more than 150 platform leaders and heard the same story: platforms are too generic and hard to adapt, and it drives churn, lower adoption and missed expansion opportunities. In a world where platforms are going headless and AI agents are pulling data outside, platforms understand they cannot remain a system of record only, they need to become a system of action and intelligence. And the first step is giving business users the power to build inside the platform, before they build around it.

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Rochman reflected:

One of my early favorite memories was coming up with the name. It was important to us that it came from the world of arts, because in our philosophy SaaS platforms should enable their users to create. In music, Legato represents continuity and extension, which reflects our vision of extending platforms through user-built applications.

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Rochman explained:

Legato is an AI-powered in-platform vibe creation layer that lets business users build apps, customizations and automations using plain language. It is embedded directly inside SaaS platforms and considers their APIs, permissions, and governance.

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector recently? Rochman acknowledged:

Since we are at the early adoption phase, the main challenge is around market education. For more than a decade, platforms have introduced no-code and AI building tools, but true democratization never happened and remained limited to developers and technical users. Changing that perception is a big part of what we’re doing.

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Rochman noted:

We built a team of top AI experts that is building a multi-agent system, grounded in layers of knowledge to enable deep understanding of user intent and build production-ready apps, in the most complex environments. All while handling guardians and governance with an ongoing feedback loop. Or in simple terms – a virtual superior engineering team that can replace months of painful customization projects with minutes of vibe app-creation.

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Rochman cited:

We closed a $7 million seed round with strong conviction around the category and completed successful early pilots with SaaS platforms, including CRM, HRTech, and marketing automation.

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Rochman affirmed:

Most vibe coding tools today live outside the platform and are designed for developers or admins. We bring vibe app creation inside the platform and make it accessible to any business user. We enable SaaS platforms to leverage their unique data and context, the domain expertise and customer knowledge that no external AI tool has, to become their customers’ AI transformation hub, not just their system of record.

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Rochman concluded:

Our goal is to become the default AI transformation layer inside modern SaaS platforms, helping them leverage their unique context and domain expertise to automate what their customers need, build what doesn’t exist yet, and capture the AI transformation budgets that currently go to external consultants and tools. This drives higher adoption, expands revenue streams, and turns the platform from a system of record into the intelligent layer their customers rely on.
