Legora, a collaborative AI platform for lawyers, announced it has acquired Canadian agent-native legal AI company Walter AI as it expands its vision for a fully integrated, agent-driven legal workflow platform.

The acquisition strengthens Legora’s investment in agentic capabilities and is intended to help the company deliver a unified AI experience for legal teams, where a single AI agent can execute complex, multi-step legal workflows from start to finish.

According to the company, the platform is designed to support end-to-end legal workstreams. These include initial Outlook intake, research across document management systems, multi-document editing and blacklining, and preparing final responses to clients.

Walter AI has built relationships with major Canadian law firms including Fasken Martineau and McCarthy Tétrault. Through the acquisition, Legora expects to expand its presence in the Canadian legal market while advancing its broader global strategy around agentic legal AI.

Walter’s technology and product development approach was created through a joint innovation program with Fasken and McCarthy Tétrault. By embedding engineers directly with law firm partners and associates, the company developed an agentic platform designed to perform complex legal tasks alongside lawyers rather than simply assist them.

The platform also integrates with key legal systems such as iManage and Outlook, enabling AI agents to execute multi-step workflows across the core tools used by law firms.

Walter AI’s leadership team includes CEO Ryan Wilson, a multi-exited founder who has built and sold five companies across payments, healthcare, cybersecurity, and vertical SaaS, and Principal Engineer Greg Bell, a former General Manager of Amazon S3 with deep infrastructure expertise.

Legora said the acquisition aligns the two companies around a shared vision that AI agents will become central to how legal work is performed.

KEY QUOTES:

“When we saw what the Walter team had built, we immediately recognized a shared philosophy around agent-native design. The Walter team have approached legal AI the same way we have – embedding closely with lawyers and designing agents to handle real, end-to-end workflows. Bringing our teams together allows us to scale that vision faster.”

Max Junestrand, CEO And Co-Founder, Legora

“When we met the Legora team, it was clear we had a shared vision for the future of agentic legal technology. By joining Legora we can accelerate the realization of that shared vision of end-to-end matter management with fleets of agents. We’ve built both companies in close partnership with the legal teams actually doing the work. Working with our customers, not just for them – iterating on feedback until the product matches how legal work actually gets done. And we’ve both arrived at the same conclusion: the future of legal AI is agentic.”
