Leica Biosystems Completes StatLab Acquisition

Leica Biosystems has completed its acquisition of StatLab, expanding its pathology portfolio across specimen preparation, staining, digital imaging and AI-enabled cancer diagnostics.

Leica Biosystems plans to combine StatLab’s pathology products and customer relationships with its own digital and computational pathology capabilities.

The combined portfolio is intended to provide pathology laboratories with a more comprehensive workflow extending from specimen collection and preparation through advanced staining, imaging and AI-enabled diagnosis.

Leica said the combination can help laboratories reduce variation, improve standardization and move samples through diagnostic workflows with greater consistency and speed.

The transaction comes as pathology laboratories manage growing case volumes, increasingly complex diagnostic requirements and staffing pressures.

Leica also expects the expanded platform to support its work with biopharmaceutical companies developing precision cancer therapies.

Leica Biosystems is an operating company of Danaher and focuses on anatomic and digital pathology solutions for cancer diagnostics.
