Leidos and OpenAI have entered into a partnership to deploy artificial intelligence to support national priorities, with a focus on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.

Under the collaboration, Leidos plans to integrate OpenAI-powered generative and agentic AI into core customer workflows across strategic markets, including digital modernization, health services, national security and infrastructure, and defense. Leidos positioned those areas as central pillars of its NorthStar 2030 growth strategy.

The partnership is designed to move federal customers beyond pilots and experimentation toward operational deployments, with an emphasis on security and mission alignment. Leidos said the collaboration includes using OpenAI’s most capable models in a secure configuration intended to protect Leidos and customer data as solutions are embedded into mission-driven environments.

Leidos also said the relationship is expected to deliver internal productivity benefits, noting that thousands of its employees already use ChatGPT and the OpenAI API Platform in day-to-day work. The company said those tools are being used to accelerate product design and delivery, and that it intends to extend beyond generative AI by developing custom agentic workflows and integrating OpenAI’s models with Leidos’ own AI tools. Leidos cited use cases such as global threat assessments, supply chain monitoring, and deepfake detection as examples of knowledge work it aims to accelerate.

Leidos, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, said it has 47,000 global employees and reported approximately $16.7 billion in annual revenue for the fiscal year ended January 3, 2025.
