LEIFRAS Acquires Tokai Sports To Expands Market Share

LEIFRAS, a youth sports and community engagement company, announced it has entered into a Stock Transfer Agreement to acquire 100% of Tokai Sports Co., Ltd., a long-established Japanese sports school operator with a 40-year history. The acquisition is expected to close on June 1, 2026, at which point Tokai Sports will become a wholly owned subsidiary of LEIFRAS.

The transaction is designed to strengthen LEIFRAS’ market position in Japan’s sports school sector while increasing customer lifetime value (LTV). Tokai Sports currently serves approximately 1,200 sports school members and operates through about 20 affiliated kindergartens and daycare centers, giving LEIFRAS a stronger presence in the Nagoya and Owariasahi regions.

LEIFRAS plans to integrate Tokai Sports’ competition-oriented sports brand and athlete development heritage with its own educational framework focused on non-cognitive skill development, including leadership and teamwork. The company believes the combined approach will improve member satisfaction and reduce churn to competing organizations.

Through the acquisition, LEIFRAS expects to add around 800 soccer school members and 400 gymnastics class members, further expanding its scale in Japan’s youth sports market. The company also plans to deploy its digital systems at Tokai Sports, including membership management and cloud-based attendance tracking platforms, in an effort to improve productivity and streamline administrative operations.

The acquisition is also expected to support LEIFRAS’ long-term strategy of maximizing customer lifetime value through a structured development pathway beginning with early childhood gymnastics programs and extending through soccer schools and junior high school programs. By leveraging Tokai Sports’ network of approximately 20 partner facilities, the company aims to increase memberships without significant new customer acquisition costs.

The transaction represents the second phase of LEIFRAS’ broader roll-up strategy. Earlier in May 2026, the company acquired four after-school day service facilities, adding 23 specialized staff members and expanding its operational footprint. Following the Tokai Sports transaction, LEIFRAS said it intends to continue consolidating Japan’s fragmented sports and therapeutic education markets while also evaluating overseas acquisition opportunities that align with its sports, technology, and social business strategy.

Founded in 1992, Tokai Sports operates sports schools, sells sporting goods, provides temporary staffing services, manages after-school child development programs, and operates childcare and welfare-related businesses in Japan.

Headquartered in Tokyo, LEIFRAS provides sports school and sports event services for children and is recognized as one of Japan’s largest operators of children’s sports schools based on membership and facilities, according to Tokyo Shoko Research as of December 31, 2025. The company’s sports education philosophy centers on developing non-cognitive skills through encouragement, recognition, and motivation while promoting physical health, social inclusion, and community well-being.
