Leonardo DRS has been awarded a three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a $500 million ceiling from Joint Interagency Task Force 401 to support the rapid delivery of counter-unmanned aircraft system sensing capabilities.
The IDIQ contract establishes a framework under which Leonardo DRS can compete for future task orders supporting JIATF-401 requirements. The $500 million figure represents the maximum potential value of the contract vehicle and does not represent an amount obligated to Leonardo DRS at the time of the award.
JIATF-401 is using the contract to accelerate the deployment of vetted counter-UAS technologies and systems to operators. Leonardo DRS will be eligible to compete for task orders involving integrated sensing capabilities intended to support force protection and low-altitude air defense missions.
The award creates an additional contracting pathway for Leonardo DRS to provide expeditionary radar and sensing technologies as unmanned aerial threats continue to evolve. The company develops systems capable of detecting and tracking aerial threats in operational environments and has positioned rapid production and fielding as an important part of its counter-UAS strategy.
Leonardo DRS produces radar and sensing technologies supporting several mission areas, including counter-UAS, counter-rocket, artillery and mortar operations, and short-range air defense. Its systems are designed to provide deployed forces with persistent situational awareness and threat-tracking capabilities.
Through its RADA Technologies business unit, Leonardo DRS develops and manufactures tactical radar systems intended for expeditionary operations. The company said its counter-UAS and air defense radars have demonstrated detection, tracking, and force-protection capabilities in operational environments.
The three-year IDIQ will allow Leonardo DRS to pursue task orders as JIATF-401 identifies additional requirements. Individual awards under the contract will determine the specific systems, quantities, delivery schedules, and funding associated with future work.
Leonardo DRS provides defense technologies across advanced sensing, network computing, force protection, and electric power and propulsion for U.S. national security customers and allied governments.
KEY QUOTES:
“Today’s threat environment is evolving faster than ever, and our customers need proven capabilities delivered at operational speed. This JIATF IDIQ positions DRS to accelerate the delivery of integrated C-UAS sensing technologies through rapid fielding of operationally relevant capabilities that help protect forces and strengthen low-altitude air defense as new threats emerge.”
John Baylouny, President And Chief Executive Officer Of Leonardo DRS
“Our counter UAS and air defense radars have demonstrated proven detection, tracking, and force protection performance in operational environments. We design, manufacture, and deliver combat-proven sensing systems at speed, and we’re ready now to support JIATF with mission-ready expeditionary radar capability that can be fielded rapidly as operational needs for C-UAS evolve.”
