Linktree — a market-leading linking platform — announced it has raised $45 million in Series B funding co-led by Index Ventures, an investor in Patreon and Discord, and Coatue with participation from returning investors AirTree Ventures and Insight Partners. Coatue Chairman Dan Rose will join Linktree’s Board of Directors, bringing his 20 years of experience from Facebook and Amazon. The funding follows a $10.7M Series A round announced in October 2020.

Launched by Alex Zaccaria, Anthony Zaccaria and Nick Humphreys in 2016, Linktree is a tool for connecting your followers to your entire online ecosystem — not just one feed. And it points your followers in the direction of your choosing like your other social profiles, an e-commerce store, or content you want to share — anywhere else on the internet, the choice is yours.

Linktree has been a rapidly growing social identity layer with more than 12 million users globally, 4 million of whom signed up in the last three months. And the platform enables brands, artists, publishers, agencies, creators, and small businesses to curate an online ecosystem, instantly guiding their audience to the destinations that they care about, without using a search engine or websites as a starting point.

The past year had emphasized the need for brands and creators to build cohesive personas across platforms and make their digital content easily discoverable as people spent more time and made more purchasing decisions online than ever before. And Linktree continues to meet the moment providing a trusted platform that streamlines the content that matters most to consumers while simplifying commerce and connection for the brands and creators reaching them. With the latest round of funding, Linktree will continue to invest in making social commerce easier so more transactions can happen with less clicks.

Since the Series A round four months ago, Linktree introduced new customization features, video link options, and streaming embeds that allow users to extend their brand to share more, sell more, grow more and connect more deeply, all for free.

In addition to product development, Linktree is planning to safely open multi-location creator hubs that will double as workplaces for its rapidly expanding remote teams — starting in Los Angeles with more to follow.

KEY QUOTES:

“There’s been a sea change when it comes to how we interact with the brands and creators we love. We want to understand them holistically and connect with them directly; we learn about their values, philanthropic causes, passion projects and promotions through social media where we’re spending our time. There’s no longer a need for brand-immersive websites or big campaigns to make a memorable impression or drive engagement.”

— Alex Zaccaria, co-founder and CEO, Linktree

“Identity has always been a critical yet elusive feature of the internet. Linktree has built a simple platform for anyone to manage their online identity through links. They proved the utility of this solution via link-in-bio, and now we’re seeing an exciting expansion of use cases and creativity. Linktree’s platform is both simple and powerful, a modern solution to an age old problem.”

— Dan Rose, Chairman, Coatue Management

“What Linktree has created is a new and deeper way to connect with the brands and people that matter to you. It reflects the changing nature of these relationships, where we place much more value on transparency and authenticity. In an online world which is fragmented and noisy, Linktree is the only link you will ever need. But it’s more than a link. It is a starting point for building a closer connection. ”
