Live Media Group has acquired Gravity Media’s U.S. mobile-production assets, adding production units, engineering personnel, existing broadcast contracts, and additional capacity to its nationwide live production operation. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition adds eight units to Live Media Group’s fleet of more than 35 production trucks, including three premium production trucks currently supporting major U.S. broadcast partners and professional events.
The acquired assets will support Live Media Group’s TNDV Television, Live Media, and GameTime Productions businesses.
A major strategic component of the transaction is the growing use of REMI, or remote integration, production workflows. Several of the acquired units were designed for distributed production models in which portions of a live broadcast are produced remotely rather than entirely on-site.
The units also support Full HD and HDR production, giving Live Media Group more capacity for technically demanding sports and entertainment events.
The acquisition provides a faster way to add production capacity than constructing new trucks, which can require 12 to 18 months.
Live Media Group had increasingly relied on rented third-party equipment as its existing fleet remained heavily booked. The Gravity assets should reduce that reliance and allow the company to accept additional productions.
Engineering and technical personnel from Gravity Media are also joining Live Media Group.
The companies will maintain a strategic partnership. Gravity can contribute RF systems, specialty cameras, flypacks, and other services, while Live Media Group can provide mobile facilities for Gravity’s international clients working on U.S. events.
